What difference does it make to the BJP if Paswan’s LJP party breaks up?
Pashupati wants to see Ram Vilas Paswan’s support base standing with him and has been doing his politics in his name only.
Even on this occasion, he wants to keep his supporters with him by demanding Bharat Ratna for Ram Vilas Paswan, 12 Janpath at Paswan’s house and LJP’s office in Patna as a memorial for Paswan.
But in the coming times, how Chirag Paswan, who is trying to become the face of the new era of politics, cares for his uncle, will be a matter to be seen.
After separating from Janata Dal, when Ram Vilas Paswan formed Lok Janshakti Party in 2000, he knew that without joining any national party or big alliance, he would not get any benefit.
Paswan was a leader of a period who always played an important role in the politics of coalition in the country.
He was such an established leader of the Dalits, Backward and Extremely Backward who found it most important to continue his fight or to remain in the government to fulfil his purpose and that is why no matter what the government was at the centre, Paswan was involved in it in some way or the other.
Must have become a minister.
Ram Vilas Paswan, who specializes in electoral politics and senses the wind before the election, has a very cordial relationship with the leaders of every party and for this reason, his interference in parliamentary politics has never diminished for the last three decades.
LJP’s crisis and politics
Today when he is not there, his party is in trouble. As soon as he left, his brother Pashupati Paras rebelled and declared himself the president of LJP. It is undoubtedly very painful for Chirag Paswan to see his father’s legacy being snatched away and the family feud going public like this.
When the country needs young faces and thinking and the parties need to get rid of leaders full of old thinking and aspirations, then these are difficult times for Chirag Paswan.
Paswan’s brother Paswan Paras has been in politics for almost four decades. Has been an MLA continuously, has also been a minister in the Bihar government. But at a time when Paswan is not there and his seat in the Union Cabinet is vacant, Pashupati Paras does not feel right to miss the opportunity.
Pashupati Paras is who he is today, despite all the controversies and crises, the way he has kept his foot in politics for the last four decades, his real force behind him has been his elder brother Ram Vilas Paswan.
Despite all his shortcomings, Paswan played the role of elder brother and made Pashupati literally Pashupati Paras.
Paswan wants to see Paswan’s support base standing with him and has been doing his politics in his name only.
Although BJP and NDA never had any particular concern about a small party like LJP, despite Paswan, she kept taking advantage of their support base and vote bank. But after the departure of Paswan, now the BJP is not worried about this internal upheaval of LJP, at least as of today.
Neither there are elections in Bihar nor is there any existence of this party at the national level. Because of his relationship with Paswan, he may have been getting the ministerial post, but now if Pashupati Paras feels that he will join the cabinet instead of Ram Vilas Paswan, then perhaps it will prove to be his big mistake.
Chirag Paswan and LJP
In fact, in the Bihar elections, when Chirag Paswan decided as the party president that he would contest the elections thereby separating from the NDA, even then his decision was opposed by some leaders within the party. Many questions were also raised and the discussion intensified whether the LJP was separating from the NDA.
Chirag Paswan, who was hurt by the sudden demise of Ram Vilas Paswan during the Bihar elections, continued the fight, but neither got any sympathy vote nor won the assembly. Whereas during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, 6 of his MPs won when he fought with the NDA in Bihar.
Pashupati Paras did not like Chirag Paswan’s style of working and doubted his intention to remain in every post. On the other hand, BJP and JDU were against Chirag Paswan anyway by fighting separately in Bihar.
The chances of Chirag Paswan getting a place in the Modi cabinet in place of Paswan were zero. In such a situation, Pashupati’s ambitions became strong and he finally made his move seeing the flurry in the cabinet.
So should it be assumed that Chirag Paswan was not able to handle the party, or he could not properly learn the merits of politics from his father, or even after doubting the intentions of uncle Pashupati Paras, he could not do anything.
Situation and compulsion?
Actually, many political equations are going to deteriorate before the 2024 elections. Efforts for opposition unity have intensified. Keeping Akhilesh Yadav at the centre in UP, the warp has been woven. The chessboard is laid from both sides, the pieces are being decorated.
In such a situation, Chirag Paswan will just give up on his uncle and let the party which was built by his father’s hard work go out of his hands, it does not seem possible.
