In Ranchi, the ‘Yas’ bridge over the Kanchi river costing crores was not able to withstand the storm. The Haradih-Budhadih bridge collapsed on Thursday. It connected Tamar, Bundu and Sonahatu in the Ranchi district. The bridge was built three years ago at a cost of crores. But this bridge, built at a cost of crores of rupees, was lost to corruption.
Corruption in bridge construction done?
Regarding the demolition of this bridge near the famous Haradih temple in the Bundu area, local villagers say that sand was constantly being illegally excavated in the Kanchi river, which weakened the bridge. If there was administrative action in time, this bridge could have survived.
Local villagers said that the Harain bridge of Sonahatu on the Kanchi River and the Balamdih bridge of Tamar had already been demolished and now the Haradih bridge was also demolished. As soon as the information about the bridge was demolished, a huge crowd gathered there.
Did the accident occur due to illegal sand mining?
According to the villagers, this bridge was not even inaugurated in due course. Obviously, questions are being raised over its quality. One reason behind the collapse of the bridge is also being told that there is illegal mining of sand daily from the river.
The sand was continuously being mined just below the bridge. Despite the constant demand from the villagers, no one took any step towards stopping the illegal mining of sand.
Broken bridge traffic
Due to rain for two consecutive days, the water level in the river has increased and in the meantime, the bridge has collapsed. The most dangerous thing is that people are also moving on the broken bridge.
In such a situation, the possibility of something untoward cannot be ruled out. The information about the bridge breaking spread like a fire across the region. The local administration is not ready to say anything on the whole issue.
